The Melrose Running Club in conjunction with the Melrose Fish and Game Club will host the second annual Assault on Mount Hood 3.5 mile cross country running race on Sunday, December 10th at 11:00 AM. The cost of registration is $13 prior to December 3rd and $15 thereafter. Proceeds from the race benefit Melrose Youth Recreation and Melrose Fish and Game Charities. Runners can register online http://www.melroserunningclub.com/assaultonmthood/2006/mthood.shtml or register on race day beginning at 9:30 AM at the Melrose Fish and Game Club on Stillton Road in Melrose. Based on the number of pre-registered runners today, the Melrose Running Club expects to have nearly double (approximately 200) the number or runners this year. The number of pre-registered runners today is 69, which exceeds the number of pre-registered runners on December 1st last year. In 2005, a total of 128 runners (most registered on race day) braved the 8 inches of snow on the ground to run the Assault on Mount Hood. The race is professionally timed by SARK and results will be posted on coolrunning.com immediately following the race. Age group awards will be given to the top male and female runners in each category. The race director, Brian Slater of the Melrose Running Club, said ?This race would not be possible without the cooperation and support of the office of Melrose Mayor Robert Dolan, Golf Management LLC and the City of Melrose Parks Department.? Immediately following the race is a spaghetti luncheon and awards ceremony at the Melrose Fish and Game Club. Photos from last year?s first race, documenting the fun all runners had, can be found at http://www.melroserunningclub.com/cgi-bin/mthood_index.cgi?1
