Description:
The Saugus Historical Society will present an exhibit entitled "From Cattle Drives to The Strip: The Story of the Newburyport Turnpike" at the Society's museum at 30 Main Street, Saugus. The exhibit will continue every Sunday afternoon from September 11 thru December 11 from 1 P.M. thru 4 P.M. with free admission. The exhibit will show by photographs and documents the history of the Turnpike in Saugus from its 1803 construction to the present, showing some of the early Saugus homes, the major 1930s divided highway and overpass construction, and the development thru the 1940s and later of the Strip. The exhibit will also look at the highway's future. Tonight is the formal opening and reception; light refreshments will be served.
