Our third place Elementary School winner is fifth grader Sydney Cochrane, a student of Veterans Elementary School in Saugus, Massachusetts. |
Well, I just moved from Saugus, Massachusetts to Translyvania. So far it’s not great. First of all, my neighbors never ever come out of the houses, and they are creepy. In my new school, everybody is pale. They dress in all black, and walk around like zombies. I miss Saugus, Massachusetts, and worst of all, there is no softball team! The only good thing about this school is I was asked to the school Halloween party, which sounds kind of fun.
Tonight I am getting ready for the Halloween party. I am wearing a vampire costume and fake fangs. I just got there and it’s pretty cool, but something is a little off. I mean very, very off. The people do have really cool monster costumes though. At least I thought they were costumes until some real vampires grabbed me and took me to the basement of the school.
I must have fallen asleep because when I opened my eyes people were standing over me, but they were not people. They were vampires. They told me not to talk, so I didn't talk. I was super scared. Then they said some crazy spell and I was hypnotized. The vampires then called in the principal who was the Devil! I couldn't believe it! They started to talk about if they were going to make me a vampire! Finally they said yes, then they bent over to bite me. Before they did I jumped up and ran for the door! Of course it was locked! I yelled and kicked and screamed, but nobody heard me. The vampires were too strong and they grabbed me and put me back in the chair. There wasn't anything I could do now. I hoped I would just become a vampire and not die.
I woke up the next morning, and I was in bed. I felt kind of funny, though. I looked funny, too. I had two small holes on my neck. I was super pale, my body ached, and I felt like I was dead, but alive. I found a note in my room. It said, “Sydney, you are almost a full vampire now. You need to drink blood at midnight, and not tell a living soul, or we will kill the person you tell.”
I couldn't believe it! Soon I would be a vampire! Well I had to tell my parents. I went downstairs and told them the whole thing. They just laughed, but as soon as they were done laughing, the real vampires kicked down the door and took them away. I should have listened to them. For not listening, they took me away too. I found I was in the Underground World, but my parents were nowhere to be seen.
The vampires then put a spell on me, and I become one of them. I never saw my parents again. I then came back to Transylvania, where I lived alone. What about my parents? Forget about it. Legend says that they are still in the Underground World, locked up. Someday I will find them, but for now I am a vampire and the only thing on my mind now is blood.
