The definition of AWKAWK is an interpreted
language developed in 1977 by Aho,
Weinberger, & Kernighan. It gets its name from its
creators' initials. It is not particularly fast, but it
was designed for creating small throwaway
programs rather than full-blown
applications -- it is designed to
make the writing of the program fast, not the program
itself. It is quite portable with
versions existing for numerous
platforms, including a free
GNU version. Plus, virtually
every version of UNIX in
the world comes with AWK built-in.
