There was a lot of disagreement between judges this year on the top stories, and a lot of general difficulty due to hurricane-caused power outages impacting judges and contest officials alike, but we've started to post the winning entries for our 15th Annual Ghost Story Contest. We'll continue to post them category by category throughout the night.

National Grid has started to assess the power outage situation in Massachusetts and has an online map showing where and how big the outages are.
Hurricane Sandy has left many homes in Massachusetts (including those of some of our Halloween Contest judges) without power. National Grid is still assessing the damage and does not yet have an estimate of when power may be restored for many locations.

Sandy is on her way and the Governor urges everyone in Massachusetts to stay off the roads if at all possible.

This is the final weekend before the Halloween Ghost Story Writing Contest deadline on the 22nd, so if you're planning on writing, please plan accordingly. Also, when e-mailing stories for the contest, please include a subject like "Halloween Story" or "Ghost Story" or "Story Contest". Messages with no subjects are far more likely to end up filed as spam and not get noticed right away.

Recently we've been getting swamped with bogus spam events for the Saugus.net Guestbook, Saugus Events Calendar and Saugus Yard Sales Calendar. All of these have been getting rejected by our human moderators, but it's making us a little slower than normal approving the real ones. We apologize for the inconvenience.

We're all caught up with responding to every Ghost Story Writing Contest entry we've received. If you have sent us a story and haven't gotten a confirmation, please resend your entry as it's likely your story got spamfiltered or otherwise lost in the Internet tubes.

There are only two weekends left between now and the Halloween Short Story Writing Contest deadline, and the number of entries we've received so far is lower than typical (especially in the elementary school and high school levels). If you're debating whether or not to submit your story, this could be your year!
