We just wanted to confirm that the eagerly awaited 2004 Saugus Historical Society calendar is definitely happening. We're working on it now, and it'll be going to the printers Monday morning and will be available (hopefully) starting January 1st.

Happy holidays from everyone here at Saugus.net. The office will be closed today and tomorrow for the holiday. However, the Community Events Calendar and other like pages will continue to be updated.

It's been a while since the last update on the Saugus SETI team has been posted here. Saugus area machines have already contributed over 3100 results, utilizing over seven years' worth of CPU time that would have otherwise been wasted. If your computer is sitting mostly idle through the holidays, why not put it to a good use?

Saugus.org was updated today.
December 22, 2003
The US Post Office sent us a special sort of holiday greetings -- apparently their policy has changed and non-profit institutions are no longer allowed to link to their ZIP Code database for the benefit of regular people sending regular mail -- the service is now only available for companies using special postal services. As a consequence the popular ZIP Codes, Etc. page will have to have its ZIP Codes portion disabled for the foreseeable future. Apparently they would rather have people calling them on the phone asking them for ZIP Codes than simply checking online... If you would like to complain about this change in policy, you can send them a (polite, please!) message via their feedback form.

It looks like the eagerly awaited 2004 Saugus Calendar (created by the Saugus Historical Society) may happen after all. We mentioned earlier it was in jeopardy due to a lack of sponsors, but the heroics of a few last-minute volunteers and sponsors have helped turn things around. We'll have the final word on its fate by next Wednesday at the latest.

We've been asked about the 2004 edition of the popular Saugus Calendar normally published by the Saugus Historical Society. Currently the word is that due to a lack of sponsorship, there will not be one for 2004. This can still change, though; if your company would like to help sponsor the 2004 Historic Saugus Calendar by purchasing an advertisement slot in it, please call either Saugus.net at 781-231-2621 or the Society at 781-233-7232.

Believe it or not, the Hammersmith Holiday Stroll is still on, although the trolleys are not running because it is no longer deemed safe for them to do so with the current accumulations and continuing snow. Also, many of the individual sites are either closed or having delayed openings; it's best to call ahead before heading out.
December 5, 2003
By far the biggest question of the day is "What's going to happen to this year's Hammersmith Holiday Stroll in light of the big storm on the horizon?" The quick answer is that both the Stroll tomorrow and the Tree Lighting Ceremony tonight will go as planned regardless of the weather. More details of what will happen where when are available on the schedule.
