Twins Katie and Rosie loved doing everything together. They shared a bedroom, shared a bathroom, and they even had a bunk bed for the two of them. Katie was EXTREMELY sporty, and Rosie was VERY girly. They were both 9 years old.

One day, when Rosie and Katie woke up, Morning, Rosie! Katie said. Wake up! My soccer game starts in ten minutes! Rosie rubbed her eyes and yawned. Soccer game? Oh, yeah. Don't worry, I'm up.” “Good! Get dressed, quick, quick, QUICK! Katie demanded. Rosie got on a pink dress and Katie got on her soccer uniform just as their mom called for them to go. WE'RE COMING, MOM! they both yelled.

Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Katie repeated for the whole car ride. Almost! their mom would say. Katie, what's so great about a soccer game? All you do is kick a ball! Rosie complained. Yeah, you win if you kick it enough! Thats the BEST PART! Katie answered. No, the best part is leaving. Rosie thought, rolling her eyes. WE'RE HERE! Rosie and Katie's mom yelled. YAY! Katie exclaimed. Yay, Rosie said, not as cheerfully.

Katie ran onto the field as fast as she could. YAY! WE'RE HERE! she screamed. All the players came onto the field to start the game. Katie ran to the ball and kicked it into the net. Another girl came and kicked the ball to someone else. Hey, dad, why do we need to sit on the grass to watch the game? Rosie asked. Well, because the soccer field is very new so they don't have the bleachers up, her dad said. Have you ever heard the legend of the cave? Rosie shook her head. That cave over there, her dad pointed to the cave next to the soccer field. It's said to be haunted by a ghost named Lily Grace. She was killed by a witch. Rosie shivered. Rosie worried about what would happen in this game...

Katie kicked the ball again and it rolled over into the cave. The other players stared at the cave, scared about who would go in. I'll go get it! Katie yelled, for she had never heard the story before. NO, KATIE!!! Rosie yelled, and her mom, grabbing her hand, was the only thing that held her back. Katie ran into the cave and saw a girl. The girl looked to be about eleven or twelve years old, with blonde hair that was stained with red. All Katie payed attention to was the fact she had the ball. Katie jumped up to get it, and when she tried, Katie's arm went right through the girl's! You're a g-g-ghost! Katie stuttered. The girl just grabbed Katie and threw her across the cave, into a pit. Katie hit the ground before she could scream.

Katie woke up and saw Rosie. Katie was in a hospital bed. Katie couldnt control her body, or what she said. She heard the doctor talking to her mom, about how she could go back home tonight. Thats perfect. Rosie and Katie can't survive a day apart, their mom said. Rosie went and grabbed Katie's hand. Katie pushed it away, even though she didn't want to. Then Katie's world went black.

Rosie was worried about Katie. She watched as her mom put her in the bottom of the bunk bed, and then Rosie climbed to the top bed. Katie? Rosie whispered. Are you OK? Daddy told me about the ghost named Lily that lives in the cave. Katie didn't answer. Lily did. Good. You've heard the story about me. Did you learn about what I do to people that trespass? Rosie shivered. Katie, I think you're tired. Let's go to sleep. Katie wanted to go to sleep. Lily didn't. I possess those who go into my cave. Just like the witch did to me. I ruin their lives. Then I destroy their memories of it.” “Katie, go to sleep! You're tired! Katie, sleep! Rosie whined. Rosie was so worried about Katie. Katie climbed up to Rosie's top bunk of the bed. Rosie looked and saw that Katie's blue eyes, identical to hers, were now red. Rosie didn't look into her eyes, only at her pink bed sheets. Katie looked at Rosie. I can't hurt her. Shes my sister. Why would I? I wouldn't. Lily would, Katie thought.  Katie knew that she was the puppet and Lily was working the strings. Rosie kept looking at the bed sheets. She blinked, and felt Katie's hands on her, and when she opened her eyes, she was on the floor. Rosie screamed, and her mom came running into their room. Whats going on in here? Rosie, why are you on the floor? she asked. Rosie cried, even though it didn't hurt much. Katie watched, and wanted to cry too, but she couldn't control herself. Katie couldn't control anything, so she could just watch.

The next day, Rosie woke up and looked down at the bottom bunk. Katie wasn't there. Rosie smiled, but then stopped and jumped off her bed. She ran out of her room, down the stairs, and into her mom's room. Mom, where's Katie? she said really quickly. She's in the kitchen. Just be careful with Katie. I don't know what's gotten into her. Rosie nodded and walked into the kitchen. She peeked through the doorway and saw Katie. Hi, Katie. Rosie whispered slowly. Katie turned around and looked at Rosie. I thought I made it clear that I am not Katie. I am Lily. Don't call me Katie again. Rosie gulped and started walking toward Katie. Katie, what's wrong? You've been acting really weird. she said. Katie wanted to yell everything that happened, how she couldn't control anything, how badly she wanted to cry the other night, but Lily had other ideas.

Katie lunged at Rosie. She threw her onto the table then pushed her off. Then Katie pushed Rosie off the table and pushed her under it, just as the table collapsed. Rosie screamed as loud as she possibly could and then she blacked out. Katie threw all the pieces of the table away and stood over Rosie. What a good job I've done. Now I can finish the job, Lily made Katie say. What are you gonna do? Katie thought. Oh, you'll see, Katie. You'll see.  Neither of them knew Rosie was still breathing.

Katie walked outside, Lily forced her to. What are you gonna do? Tell me, please! Katie thought, and Lily kept repeating the same thing: You'll see. Lily forced Katie to walk into the middle of the street. What are you gonna do? Why am I out here? Why did you kill Rosie? Katie thought. Lily made Katie stand in the street, and just stayed there for hours.

Rosie woke up and was amazed that the rubble wasn't on top of her. She stood up and immediately felt pain in her leg. She looked down and saw that her leg had a long, bleeding cut. Rosie moaned, but managed to yell, Katie! Where are you? Rosie looked around the whole house, but couldn't find Katie. Katie! she yelled again. Then she thought of the one place she hadn't looked. Rosie grabbed her coat and ran outside. She looked around and saw Katie standing in the street. Rosie! Come here! Katie wanted to yell. Rosie started to run to Katie, but she fell because of her leg. Katie! I'm coming! Rosie yelled. She saw a car coming at Katie and managed to pick herself up. Katie wanted to scream, and Rosie DID scream. She ran as fast as she could toward Katie, and the car got closer, and closer, and closer.......

Rosie screamed and pushed Katie out of the way. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE? YOU HAVE RUINED EVERYTHING!!!!! Lily shouted using Katie's voice. Katie started to run, and Rosie chased after her. KATIE, COME BACK! GET THE GHOST OUT OF YOU! Rosie yelled. Katie kept running and then finally reached the soccer field. She ran into the cave and Rosie noticed something inside the cave. It was a small book with the word Diary on the cover. Rosie picked it up. PUT THAT DOWN RIGHT NOW. Lily yelled, so Rosie knew it was important. She lifted up the book and opened it. Light came out of the book, blinding Rosie. NO! CLOSE THAT! CLOSE IT!!! Lily demanded, and then Lily's ghost came flying out of Katie. Lily flew into the book, and the book slammed shut, then fell on the floor. Katie collapsed on the floor.

Rosie lifted Katie up to her feet. Katie picked up the book. What should we do with this? What'll happen if someone opens it? she said. I have the perfect place, Rosie whispered. They both walked back home, the diary in Katie's hands. They went into their front yard and dug a deep hole in the ground. Katie gently put the book in the hole, and Rosie covered it up. We're safe now. Lily can't get us, they both said.

ONE HUNDRED YEARS LATER...

Little Julie Thompson ran out into her front yard with her dog, Sweetie, trailing behind her. Puppy! Dig for pirate treasure! Julie said. DINNER! her dad yelled, and Julie ran into the house. Sweetie dug a hole at Julie's previous command and saw a book. The puppy pawed at the book and opened it. It's about time. Lily whispered, and possessed the dog.

THE END FOR NOW...
